LAGOS NIGERIA- 27th, June, 2026 – The Uncork-NG podcast recently took to the floor of the Food and Beverage West Africa (FAB) Exhibition 2026, a three-day event held from June 9th to June 11th at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos. Taking over the region’s largest food and beverage trade platform, the team gained first hand insight into the product’s innovations, corporate tactics and consumers trends redefining the regional market.
The Uncork-NG team was offered a front row seat to into a newly sold-out Hall 5 that accommodate over 350 international brands from 60 countries. One of the most glaring revelations gathered by the production crew was the overwhelming surge of “health-conscious” branding attempt to disrupt traditional drinking habits. Highlighting this market shift, one of the wine distributors at the event noted during an interview;
“Price is a factor to why Nigerians opt for beer because it’s cheaper and gives them the feel that they want, but we provide more health-conscious options.”
Compared to previous industry meets, claims of “sugar-free,” “all-natural,” and “organic” dominated almost every packaging layout on display, indicating an aggressive response by manufacturers to appeal to increasingly health-aware consumers looking for premium alternatives.
However, the Uncork-NG team investigation revealed a more complex narrative. A closer look at ingredient lists by the Uncork-NG team during live walkthroughs exposed a heavy reliance on artificial sweeteners like sucralose, aspartame, and acesulfame-K, alongside hidden preservatives and additives in products labeled as “all-natural.” Through a series of exclusive on-the-spot interviews with brand representatives, local distributors, and manufacturing delegates, the podcast sought to untangle this friction between clever corporate marketing and actual nutritional value.
